Electronic Worlds

In E-topia the author explains that as technology advances our traditions and values modify to adapt to that technology. As we allow technology to cradle us will we sacrifice the family for the sake of connivence or have we already given it up, and when if ever would we stop?

  1. Technology will not completely replace or sacrifice family. Facebook and MySpace have taken over the aspect of family communication to some extent. Instead of talking to family at the end of the day, sending messages to friends on Facebook or MySpace have become more frequent and convenient for some. On the other hand, even though e-mailing friends may be more convenient; when good advice becomes too difficult for friends to provide, one must consult his or her family with these issues. For this reason, family will always be needed. Technology will never completely take over the position of a family.

  2. Thats a nice thought, but society seems to be moving away from the family as it was once known, just look at the changes due to the media, how we have expected the cable and internet to entertain us while the family has become more loosely connected. People are already getting advice from the internet through services such as webmd. Really its even rare now to not see some type of advice on relationships or gifts on yahoos homepage, its not to hard for me to see society going the way of Brave New World.
